Wisconsin Black Bear numbers hold high population trend

Wisconsin Black Bear numbers hold high population trend.

The new reports from the Wisconsin DNR are in on wildlife populations. As a Black Bear state, Wisconsin is among the tops. This is no accident.
Following the downward trends into the early 1980s, and closing the hunting season for one year - what courage - Wisconsin game managers, sportsmen, interested parties, and the public committed to a demanding scientific approach to understanding and improving Black Bear populations. And they did.
In our modern world there really is nothing left untouched by humanity. Maybe "natural" is a word to abandon? This Holocene demands a greater acknowledgement and accountability on people, especially policy makers and other "deciders" for our individual and collective impacts on the environment. We make choices, and choices have consequences. In the case of Black Bears, well done Wisconsin.
