Countdown commencement 2022
Earth Day means so many things to so many people. One thing Earth Day means to me is the time for Black bear sightings is at hand, be it Iowa, West Virginia, or Montana. Sightings in and around the Great Lakes forests or the mountains of The West are anticipated whereas sightings in Iowa are cause for true excitement. Rarity is value.
I'm putting my chips on Mothers Day weekend for the first Iowa sighting. People will be traveling to family farms for celebrations, hikers will be be on the trails before the mosquito outbreak, and turkey hunters will be in the woods. That is a lot of human eyeballs, only one pair needs to spot the needle in the haystack. I'm willing to bet on those odds, black bears in Iowa are worth it.
