South Bear Creek, a little bare.

South Bear Creek, a little bare.

I've been to South Bear Creek twice in the last two weeks. We probably don't deserve such a lovely spot, a two-plus hour drive from Linn county will alway keep it special.

My lure to the water was trout, but the name is what I've taken home. Bear Creek, but where're the bears? The cool waters have flowed ceaselessly for thousands of years, but the last 150 years have been without its namesake. Can a creek get lonely?

June is wandering season for young bears, especially young males. The black bear mating season puts the young romeos into gear in search of safer haunts, away from a dominate boar as well as hopefully in contact with novel sows how possess low standards for lovers.

So far, I haven't heard of any sightings. Have you?
