With Just a Little Imagination

With just a little imagination.

Trout fishing in a steep and sleepy valley I glanced to the woods. I saw a bear.

Well, not really, but rather my imagination let me see a large burl as a small bear climbing a tree. Sadly the picture doesn't do its resemblance justice. But at that time, and now when I retrieve it from my memory, it was there.

Nature is a source for inspiration. Louis Sullivan used natural forms and motifs in his effort to create a distinctly American architecture. Writings from time immemorial have drawn on nature as a launchpad for new ideas and expressions. If not those, then a means to dream.

I dreamed the bears returned to the driftless folds of Iowa, and someday they will. And we will all find away to live together, with just a little imagination.
